sticks sticks sticks!!! kids get in the car we’re going to montgomery ward!
so this is weak news, but I’ve been enjoying a few cooking shows on food tv. “In Search of Perfection” and “The Main” have been alright. I’ve enjoyed heston blumenthal’s name as well as his way of thinking even though he still reminds me of a little school soccer kid who has to wear glasses. anthony sedlak has great plating hands even though his chopping skills seem slow to me and he keeps saying “bang on” which makes me think of t-shirts. Low and behold, her cooking sometimes ain’t so special, but nigella is also back on the air with quick-to-make food called “nigella’s express”. No one makes food sexier. yes, I have always had a crush on her. good thing she reminds me of my honey bunny (or vice versa).
who else could pull off this shot?

oh hammie. how you confuse me. part mcdonalds. part yoshinoya. your cheap price tag beats a burger at Vera’s and confuses my snot out of my nose. i did not eat you…this time.

a real pot-luck style thanksgiving dinner - totally rocked. I got to have homemade moose kovbasa!!! love it. thanks to shasta and richard for hosting along with utah, juniper, and alder.

they looked decent, but consistency of socks and no sweet egg taste. just socks.

in a manic panic to save the summer soul of sunshine i flew through the kits farmers market a month or so ago, grabbed a few san marzano’s and followed youtube to can some summer. here is the result.

“comfort food called, they want their point back”
4434 10th ave, east-west pointe grey
okay so I’m as indecisive as a hopping two-headed frog sometimes, so when leading my girlfriend in a convincing way that we would “stumble” upon a nice place to try near UBC I was tickled kentucky bourbon when we found Burgoo. I felt like I was transported to some cozy loft bistro up in the french alps. The name of the game here is soup or stew, and they are seasonal which added much faith to their already spot on calling. I’d say the food was spot on as well, a little underseasoned for my midwest hoosier roots, but i think that is the point. this is comfort food including the price and atmosphere - i mean I HAVE to compliment their taste in music. i think i was actually humming and dancing while eating. the biggest compliment i could pay this place is that i will look forward to rainy days this nasty winter to stop by and have a big pot some irish stew.
in adolescent news, burgoo rhymes with…

“watch out for crabby cyclists, and anxious people in line for coffee at 3pm”
end of 1 road, richmond south
there is so much history here and so many places to either eat (fish), drink caesar’s or coffee, and watch the time go by - I like. fish and chips where tried at PaJo’s and the cone of newspaper filled with the deep fried golden goodness was perfect - even down to the wooden beach chairs with hole for cone. can’t beat it if the weather is nice.

While the summer has been a bit flat with the long labour day weekend being a mix of cool fall temps and well…gulp…rain, the farmer’s markets are going off!
sheep celebration time!
Highlights are a bunch of nice people, excellent coffee (confirmed) and crêpes (so I hear) along with some killer bread and baked products. And everything is damn near wholesome - either organic or non-spraying produce, so there is plenty of edibles for home too (like crazy-good blueberries, cherries, and summer lettuce).
Another cool point was a stand full of beautiful handmade pottery which had some beautiful swirl pieces and glazework. I got to hang out behind-the-stage simply cause it was my pal Katie’s mom’s stand. She makes them all her own from Burnaby and is the nicest lady! So go check out the market and save some money for a lovely teacup, teabag dish, or soup bowl and EAT LOCAL!
