your 33 black angels

So I was busy checking out the entire ROOTS series on iTunes when my google notifier was like *ping whawoom* you received a message from a fashionista turkey pie named ***privacy**. Turned out it was a fan of this band Y33BA (which in leetspeak would be - YEE BA!) and was like “hear me out they’re good and under appreciated”

So I’m cutting my cats nails and listening to their 4 song library on myspace. Since I am only a humble reviewer of recorded broadcasts of the musical guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, being asked to review YEE BA! was a bit refreshing (especially since I’m dry as a virgin cuba libre what with the vga strikes and all). I mean I used to dream of being like pitchfork, drowing in samples, booya!

“psycho on your side” - check out their livejournal page from ‘05.  *chuckle* I think that this song is a flagship show for live performances cause you can get the lyrics in your head easily like the theme from “Cheers”.

“town and country” - to be honest, this song is much more enticing to me. though it’s always been a stupid name for a car.  I could listen to this quite frequently, like 80 decibels while I’m in a carwash, that would be cool.

“sue” - sorry but I would probably go take a leak during this song.  I’m sure they do some sexy stuff live during this song, but…

“know that u are not the only 1″ - crazy bass synth man, you have made this song more interesting though you may have been playing a different song during the recording.

there you go penguinrobot fan #1.  Good luck and keeping reading blogs hard!

RIP Susan Moulder

this is old news now, but back in early October I found another one of my high school friends has died.  I put down words of thought on her memorial service guestbook here.what is creepy is that her death is a suspected murder-suicide with her fiancee, pictures of whom I saw on Facebook just weeks before (the same pictures that went to media).

sometimes youtube is just plain stupid

after britney’s quote-unquote “lousy lazy” performance on the mtv video awards this jewel of a viral video showed up from Britney’s quote-unquote “fan” chris crocker.

which spawned a plethora of responses…
this brilliant one from seth green telling us to leave chris crocker alone.

along with a few other lamer sheet versions like this one with some sheet malfunction

then the texas chainsaw massacre killer, leather face, came back telling us to leave chris crocker and seth green alone

and now everyone is feeling insecure

and don’t forget that the freaks come out at night…uh

reflections on the iPhone from a user

NOTE: I asked one of my best mates to write a review on the iPhone - he’s been using one for about two weeks now, and it’ll be at least a year before it’s avail. up here in Canada, so I asked him to blurb about it.  here’s his spiel.

Task after task, function after function, life starts to get a little easier. When you have nearly unlimited knowledge at your finger tips, from the pocket of your pants, how can you not start to live life better? I’m amazed at how much I use and can use more than half the functions of my iPhone, all day long, (roughly 5 hours of my 18 hour day, since my last full charge.)
But its not all the functions that make my iPhone near the top of my list for greatest purchases ever, its how easy it has been to use them. Thousands of products have been doing the same tasks for years creating the mindset that everyone has regarding technology, wait, it will get cheaper, the first generation will have glitches, man, wouldn’t it be cool if it did this.
Up til now. Never has any interface made using technology fun, save the Wii. Because we’ve been tied to to a stylus, a mouse and a screen we can’t make work like or minds want them to.  Everytime I hand someone my phone, I barely have to tell them anything, and they just get big eyes and say wow. Its just easy, and intuitive, not because you understand computers, but because Apple paid attention to the mind, not convention. Everyone has gadgets that do things just fine, no real complaints, Apple perfected what has been wrong with technology ever since profit trumped creativity and ingenuity. The iPhone not only changes the playing field, it changes people and shifts their paradigm to demand a user interface and device that raises both eyebrows, not just one.

green building trade show

just a quick blip that I attended the (I believe) first annual green building trade show at ubc at the top of the month.  it was the first trade show i’ve been to where all of the exhibitors where not there with boat loads of printed matter or promotional items, but rather the trade show is online - a savings paper and resources and a chance to have material viewed throughout the year I guess. http://www.buildingtradeshow.com/  interesting concept especially since I used to be very close to the promotional world.

the keynote was william mcdonough and the man is a genius.  that is all.  I’m reading his book so more later.

statement on twitter

if you read my blips and look closely (and you know you do) - you’ll notice that off to the right - just under the penguinrobot logo is my latest twitter update.

i’ve decided to group this with my “reflections on a bus” category as they are both impulsive rants (one is just a bit shorter).

on another note I would like to state that I am a bit opposed to the name “twitter” - being a fan or TWiT and all. sorry leo.  i dig it for now - adds a layer of what else is going on.

No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog

by Margaret Mason

I enjoyed reading through (99?) ideas for writing to your blog. Quick read, well organized by time available to post, and includes other good blogs for reference. Some ideas were common sense, but there are good ideas - especially if you are just stuck writing that you came home, watched daily show, laughed, brushed your teeth, etc.

in gratitude for actually writing a book about writing a blog here are links to Margaret’s sites…

I tend not to blog about my moment to moment life…because it goes by in a flash!

speaking of flash, in other news Mikka has stopped 54 goals so far in 2OT!
