song performed: “Neo Consumer” from the album Hey Venus!
conan’s reaction: “that was great. *shakes guitar hand* nice to see you again. *shakes bass hand* that was fantastic *shakes gruff hand* thanks for coming back guys. super furry animals, we’ll take a break, we’ll be right back. *claps twice*”I have to comment that the BioBest Vitalité yogourt commercials up here make me simply uncomfortable. That tummy is strange. It visits me deep in weekend afternoon sleep and stamps me with probiotic prebiotic parbiotic gristle.
on Leno, my goodness doesn’t Tift Merritt seem just like a cross between Gillian Anderson and Aimee Mann! She also adds to the Cat Power line of female in their like mid-thirties that are kicking butt right now.
conan cut down the screeching raccoon with a jet pack.
In other news, I had no idea that Sarah Ferguson from Kids, Incorporated is Fergie. Holy cow does that change things for me.
I feel like I should title this entry “mwnged” since SFA released an album called “mwng”. Super Furry Animals hail from Wales and are admittedly a band I got confused with Animal Collective for the longest time. But there are huge differences. While SFA always keep an element of psychedelics in their back pocket, the band also rocks out sometimes and with frontman Gruff Rhys, tunes also remain closely melodic (contrast withe Animal Collective where the melody is the psychedelic part).
Tonight’s song is very upbeat with constant dinging of high piano note upbeat. The stage is foggy with blue spotlight. Gruff is on guitar and vocals, himself a dark navy figure, almost a bit of a giant young harvey keitel but with thick warrior mop of a hair. His vocals are like Ray Davies with a thicker accent, a bit more pull on some vowels, it’s nice. Bright Red guitar in hand punches through the cloudy blues of the night.
Echoing him on the flip stage, almost like KIZZ is guitar man, with thicker beard, maybe thinner hair on top. The back row drummer and keys is a stark contrast, two gents that have shave-bald crowns both stockier in stature. Tonight’s song has a ton of harmony singing, great riffin on the guitar and a steady rhythm. It’s short but very sweet.
