song performed: “Foundations” from the album Made of Bricks
conan’s reaction: “hey. that was great *taps bass man on shoulder* hey, thank you so much *shakes kate hand* thank you very much, that was fantastic. Kate Nash everybody, we’ll take a break, we’ll be right back, stick around, that was great. *shakes drum hand. shakes preppy guitar hand”
Tonight it’s a Dublineeer!…And coming from the gravy train of Lily Allen maybe? Check this out. Kate Nash? American TV Debut? Is that the Kate from Lost? Or the hockey Nash from Columbus? No. It’s Kate Nash, who apparently broke her foot in the midst of trying to become an actor. Then, when she was in bed recovering switched her talented focus to songwriting. I mean…that’s just like me and this blog. I used to raise chickens. Then SARS. Now I blog.
The story goes Lily Allen who bursted onto the pop scene last year with the help of myspace tagged Kate in her top friends - with all of that hot coal traffic on there, Kate finds herself signed and on Conan. How cool is dat?
oooh Kate is in sequins, a deep lavendar which makes her look a redhead *research note is she redhead?* n00b. Kate is playing a gigantic keyboard, probably more of an electronic organ due to its size. To her left is preppy guitar man who has that indie european look going on. To her right is a homedude in hoodie (not much camera time), who is playing on what looks like a DDR mat. Behind and finishing out the ensemble is a drummer with glasses who looks like 80% of blonde pale drummers out there with glasses including the drummer for Weezer.
The song is complex - I would recommend reading the lyrics as we have not time to cover those here. This is a smarter sharper Lily Allen and one who as far as I know is not going to be mommy. The lyrics I heard brought smiles to me but with good tone - i wasn’t afraid of losing my johnson.
One other thing to note. I think they have the smaller monitor speakers of any band I’ve seen on Conan. so cute. kate is cute. her band is cute and her speakers are cute.
