MGOC: Lindsey Buckingham

song performed: “shut us down” from under the skin
conan’s reaction: “g-damn *long shakes lindsey’s hand - lindsey asks “hey how are you”* i’m good now that was, *points at lindsey* that was worth waiting up for, that was fantastic. *shakes again* lindsey buckingham everybody. that was really great. *pats lindsey on back* that was our show. i want to thank all of our guest. adam sandler. *motions adam to come onstage* come over here. *panic waves adam over* sandler bud come over here, goodbye everybody *adam sandler comes on stage and hugs lindsey pats on back* we’ll see you tomorrow stay tuned for last call with carson daly buh-bah everybody buh-bah.

paulo nutini was on leno yo. i’d like to call him paulo nutella. me mate erik likes him a lot. paolo is hilarious cause he likes to put new shoes on, but his new shoes do not improve his posture which is humpback-meets-pee-pee-dance.

i know you’re thinking how can i pass on an american idol (loser btw) contestant because he was too pop-gone-scary-you-are-what-you-listen-to-boooorrring and then turnaround and write about a former fleetwood mac artist gone solo. well the answer is fleetwood mac, followed by a swift roundhouse daddy mack. be you a fan or not, they carried some good tracks on their back in their day.
lindsey had quite the cool backgroung going on. see with solo performances, usually I picture a dark stage with mood lighting and a solid spotlight on the artist so he/she can’t actually see what they are doing well. there was a soft spot light, but really he was lit from below which turned his head a glowing mass at times. also the backdrop was a smooth yellow-white light and blue, blue everywhere which I’m sure accented lindsey’s own.

and it was a bit odd both the playing position and the guitar that lindsey played - which was some weird kind of lyre/classical gas guitar but with a hard body, skinny neck, fingerboard cutouts to get super high notes, and some sort of pick-ups I’m guessing. lindsey plucked away though not with long well-groomed nails, but with a thumb pick which is to say a bit wussy in the classical manicurial fashion. the position lindsey was holding the guitar was a bit cialic/viagric in nature, even though it was a nod to classical guitars.

i kept thinking if in the song where he shouts about sticking around as long as he can, he is subliminally singing out to stevie nicks, but what do I know. for fans of the song, apparently it was in cameron crowe’s elizabethtown soundtrack from a while back. sounds of this newer album (first solo release in 14 years) are good, maybe even a bit flaming lips but with that familiar “tusk” sound.

the song ended in true fleetwood mac fashion with a long staccatto-echoey instrumental. great, now i have “rhiannon” stuck in my head.
