I found out this evening that one of my aunts is hospitalized after a heart attack/seizure and things aren’t looking good.
i learned earlier this week that one of my aunts had a seizure/heart attack/stroke (unknown) at work and is hospitalized with assistance. Things aren’t looking so good.
conan’s reaction to the end of the show: “Hey…that was very cool *quick close handshake guitar 2* hey, thank you for doing it that was great *firm handshake little eye contact bass* thank you very much *polite distant handshake guitar 1* good man that was great *relaxed extended handshake drummer* Explosions in the sky, i like it. we’ll take a break. we’ll be right back. *three clap* *picks nose with left hand (looks like a thumb pick)* *shakes guitar 2 guys hand again*
if I showed you the headline, “Texas Instrumental Group Based in Austin”, maybe you’re thinking new Kenny Wayne Shepard or Stevie Ray Vaughn type deal with lots of plucking and blues riffs that would make one comfortable to slowly eat overcooked beef ribs down to the bone with mosquitos.
it was the first time that I did not see a microphone set-up, but i only noticed after an intro that seemed to go on for a long time (this is in contrast to the Apples in Stereo from the other night where everyone was mic’d, but only half had singing bits). So I was surprised to see and hear a mix of indie and pop - all instrumental with the band members focusing more on their sound than on their look. so it was a great performance I thought, enough to get me to myspace them. they played “welcome ghost” from their latest album i believe. good lighting and maybe cause the camera people didn’t have to focus on singer’s mouth or dancer’s upper knee, it was good camera position and motion.
all of their myspace songs are instrumental, so they will forever be that way in my brain. “welcome ghost” was progressive rock in nature - repetitive cords that sounds somewhere like a cross between joe satriani, rattatat and radiohead back in their guitar-happy days and maybe a pinch of mannheim steamroller and even hiroshima?
listening to the song on their site, i get bits of jealousy - like this song would have been an ingenius song back if i could play it in high school. that’s not to say it’s amateur, but the emotion of the song without words is left just a widely open to interpretation as some of those high school battle of the band songs. plus some of the minor chords they hit toward the break before the rebuild are not in the intermediate player’s handbook. it’s a tighter performance, but there are some relaxed parts - which is probably austin, cause really this is a pacific northwest story being told by optimistic slightly innocent texan band. it’s not too much for them to handle at all though. it’s big there you know.
I’m not sure if a blog is the most appropriate place to post about someone passing away. This morning my girlfriend’s grandma, suffering from lung and back cancer, passed away. Her grandma was always extremely nice to me (and us), and I will miss visiting with her for her healthy lunches.
the funeral is tomorrow and I won’t get to be there.

Here’s where I attempt to give you some bearings. You probably came from whatever nonsense I wrote here (if not feel free to check and come back). pengruin
It contains my manifesto. you see, this is all starting in 2007. blogs are like old news except for the fact that they are everywhere and old news is actually welcome. I’ve been doing some “research” and there are whole communities of bloggers tackling political issues, sharing beautiful images of lastest kitchen creation, giving up pointers on how to change diapers, and even a blog based on the NBC show “The Office” (US version).
I noticed that blogs fall into a niche - a food blog, a tech blog, relationships, pop culture, etc. Well this blog is all about focusing on things to improve life plain and simple.

Q: Ever run for office? (School, club, organization, politics, etc.) Did you get elected?
Once I ran for scribe in scouts. I won and it elevated my ego to the degree that joined the track team. I quickly came to the realization that I didn’t know exactly what a “scribe” did. The end result was that I swore off pickled eggs and booze.
