conan’s reaction to the end of the show: “That was nice. *shakes G’s hand* Thank you so much. G Love *shakes Tristan’s hand* Tristan Prettyman. Thank you so much, that was fantastic we’ll be right back”
I have to admit I’m biased because back in ‘94, when I was in NYC for Thanksgiving, I got to run into the gigantic Tower Records there which completely blew my mind. I remember I found and bought G Love & Special Sauce, Digable Planet’s “Blowout Comb”, and Vince Guaraldi Trio’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. G Love would become part of my cool vocabulary.
In Fall ‘97 I would see him open up for Dave Matthews Band at UCSD. Again in ‘01 I would see him at the House of Blues in West LA. Dates may be skewed, but the shows were important. His CD’s would get me through dull days at work in college. Even his enhanced CD show “Cooking wit G” would help re-inforce in my brain that home boys can cook and be cool too (and that fresh food is better).
Tristan would also cross my path in 2002 - she was a local hit in San Diego and the local venues and stations ate her up (post Jason Mraz explosion, she seemed next to go).
So it was a treat to see them together in a classy New York style set. The song was nothing to save a soup bone for, but sometimes you got to be a fan.
